Jaya alleges Union Minister Raja pressured judge

Chennai: AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa on Thursday alleged the unknown minister who allegedly tried to influence a Madras High Court Judge was IT and Communications Minister A Raja and demanded he be sacked.

Jayalalithaa was commenting on Madras High Court judge R Reghupathi’s allegation that a Union Minister had asked him to grant bail to a medical student and his father, who are being investigated in a forged mark-sheet case.

“Though the judge has not named him, it doesn't require any super human intelligence to guess that it is A Raja,” said Jayalalithaa in a statement issued in Chennai.

She alleged Raja knew C Krishnamurthy, the doctor accused of manipulating mark sheets, and their families had business and political ties.

''Even after this, if Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh continued to turn a blind eye to the misdeeds and illegal acts of Mr Raja, it would be a great disservice to the country and to the democracy,'' she said.

Justice Regupathi, on June 29, alleged in his court that a Union Minister tried to influence him to grant anticipatory bails.

Dr Krishnamurthy and his son, Kiruba Shridhar, a student of a private medical college in Puducherry are accused of manipulating the answer sheet in the ophthalmology examination in the III year MBBS course.
