Rizwanur case: Judge receives threat letter

A metropolitan magistrate, who had issued an arrest warrant against deceased Rizwanur Rehman's industrialist father-in-law Ashoke Todi, has claimed of having received a letter warning him that his 'rigid attitude' towards the Todis 'might cause his own harm'.

The letter, written in English on a postcard to the seventh magistrate Bibhas Chatterjee, allegedly threatened that he should step down or would have to pay the price as all his decisions were going against the Todis.

After receiving the letter at his office, Chatterjee got in touch with the chief metropolitan magistrate who immediately informed the police.

Thereafter, armed policemen were posted before his court and chamber and security provided by the detective department and reserve force to escort him to his Sreerampore residence.

"We have received a complaint from the metropolitan magistrate and have ensured his security. We are looking into the matter seriously," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department) Jawed Shamim said.

On September 22, Chatterjee who was in charge of 14th CBI court issued arrest warrant against Ashoke Todi, Pradip Todi and Anil Sarogi who did not turn up at the court despite summons.

Todi, along with six others, was issued charge sheets by CBI on September 22 for alleged abatement of computer graphics teacher Rizwanur's suicide. Rizwanur's body was found on railway tracks on September 21 last year after his marriage to Ashoke Todi's daughter Priyanka on August 18.
