All co-operative banks in Pudukottai district to be computerised

PUDUKOTTAI: To tone up the functioning of co-operative banks, the Department of Co-operation has chalked out a comprehensive plan to computerise all the banks in the district in a phased manner.

While 23 banks -- the Pudukottai District Central Cooperative Bank and its 20 branches besides a couple of urban banks in the district -- will be computerised in the first phase, the grass-root level Primary Agricultural Co-operative Credit Societies (formerly known as Primary Agricultural Co-operative Banks), numbering 135, will be computerised in course of time.

“Computerisation of the PDCCB and its urban branches will bring the banks’ efficiency on par with the other commercial and private banks. Best customer service will be the resultant gain,” said Joint Registrar of Co-operatives M. Pazhanivelu, who is also Special Officer of the PDCCB.

Towards this goal, the PDCCB has initiated special training for 92 employees – 84 from the PDCCB and eight from the urban banks _ in five batches.

For four days

Inaugurating the training for the first batch here on Monday, Mr. Pazhanivelu said that the programme aimed at computerised operation of accounts pertaining to branch-level transactions. He said that each batch would undergo the training for four days.

Resource persons from Wipro Infotech (Chennai) _ M. Hariprakash, G. Arunprasad and G.V. Rajagopal _ said that the packages were designed by Onward e-services, Chennai, in accordance with the needs of the Department.
